Hybridfest MPG Challenge Results - Competition for the Best Gas Mileage

Fuel Economy Competition for Hybrids

Part of the fun at Hybridfest was a 20 miles Hybridfest MPG Challenge. This was an event where hybrid car owners could take their hybrid car on a 20-mile open road course to see how good of gas mileage they could achieve. There was no time limit and participants were asked to follow all traffic laws.

It was amazing to see the results.

The only non hybrid allowed to run the course was radio station, 92.1 the Mic. It took their cargo van 43 minutes to complete the route and they acheived 10.1 mpg.

Everyone else who competed beat the EPA fuel economy estimates for their respective vehicle. And in some cases people even doubled the EPA estimates.

Interestingly, the top winners in the Prius and modified Insight categories actually maxed out the fuel consumption meters. In other words, the meter didn't go any higher.

So in reality their fuel economy may have been condsiderably higher than what was reported!

Even though there were prizes, the event was more for fun, and to show what is possible if you really try.

Congratulations to everyone who particpated. You are all winners.
